Today came my first of what I am sure will be many moments in which I become convinced I have found the place I want to live. I am on a farm just outside Esperance. Charlie, its 85-year-old owner, invited me here when I met him in town. Charlie is one of those people you wish to meet on your travels. I learnt his life story and was thoroughly impressed. I wish everyone could meet Charlie. Life is too short for men like him. So, I have found myself in a caravan, in a shed, on a farm. Earlier in the day I washed my clothes at a laundromat in town, where I also used a basin to shave and wash my hair. I bathed in the ocean and rinsed under a beachside shower. I then hung out with four other travellers on the esplanade, two of whom had just cycled across the Nullarbor.
