I picked up Dad from the hospital. He had been there five days in total. While trying to deal with his stomach pain himself (before the doctor’s visit), his appendix had become black and gangrenous, with infection spreading through his abdomen. So, it had become quite a serious issue. To make matters worse, during his surgery the anaesthetist had to call an emergency when they struggled to intubate him. They had to pull in some specialty equipment and force the tubes down, leaving my dad wondering why his throat was really sore when he woke up from the operation. He is home now and has been cleared for travel, so my parent’s European holiday will go ahead as planned. They leave in six days.
