The road was flat and there was hardly a headwind to speak of so I was riding at a fairly good pace. Passing in front of the sun was a cumulus cloud, its edges glowing silver. The day was beautiful, the scenery picturesque. The van had four people across the front seat. Two of them were children and all of them were waving frantically with both hands. The kids’ faces were lit up with excitement. It was for me. The apparent joy these people had in seeing a lone cyclist was contagious, sending a bolt of electricity into the base of my spine. The feeling travelled up my back and tore my face open into a wide smile, followed by a sigh. Yep, this is totally awesome. This is what I’m meant to be doing right now. I am living life the best way I know how and as a result life is grand. Not even a mouthful of midges as I smiled diminished my positivity. Today I rode the furthest I have ever ridden in a single day. I rode all day clipped in and it felt perfect.
