I set off with the heaviest load I have ever carried: six days’ worth of food and 35.5 litres of water. Such is the remote nature of the area. I fared ok. My knees are a little sore. I didn’t make the full distance I wanted, but this is only because I was too ambitious for such a load and not because I didn’t make good progress. I am camped just off the Great Northern Highway, close enough that while lying in my tent it sounds like I will get run over every time a road train passes. It’s a night for the ear plugs.
