I got up early and picked up the gear I had hidden in the bush yesterday. Then I snuck onto the service tracks for FMG/BHP’s rail lines. I shouldn’t really be using these tracks and there was a big fat sign saying ‘authorized personnel only’ but they will get me to where I want to go and hopefully any workers I cross paths with will just be plebs without the willingness to pull up a random guy on a bike. Thanks to mining money the dirt road was in awesome condition and I was able to move along relatively speedily. Despite being passed several times by mine-spec vehicles I was left alone. It took a while to find the right tracks but I eventually found my way to the old Abydos homestead. The grove of palms I found there felt like an oasis and I cooled down by having a wash in a clean(ish) puddle. I decided to have the afternoon off so I took my kindle and packet of lollies to a shady spot among the trees and chilled out. It was nice to escape the heat and forget about the bike for a little while.
