I have settled into the Gibb River Road and am absolutely loving it. It was very hot today but a light breeze made the ride more bearable and on reaching Dog Chain Creek I was able to cool off in a lily-padded water pool. Riding through the Napier Range and seeing the Queen’s head brought back memories from 2006 when I joined my girlfriend of the time and her family on a road trip to Mitchell Falls. The road was in relatively good condition, with stretches of hard-packed earth rather than loose gravel, enabling me to travel at a normal speed. Inconsiderate drivers are frustrating. Why not slow down just a little so the poor cyclist is not sprayed with rocks and coated in dust? I’m glad I’m not doing this in the peak season.
