Q and I went hiking in Keep River National Park today. Massive peaks of conglomerate sandstone have been left behind from years of changing water levels and weathering, creating a dramatic landscape the likes of which I have never seen before. Several hours later I was visiting a doctor in Kununurra hospital. The lower left part of my abdomen started hurting shortly after we started hiking and I was soon being attacked by wave after wave of intense pain. I had the same thing a couple of months ago in Tom Price, where it lasted for about 36 hours. Then, I put it down to food poisoning. With another attack today, I started thinking there must be some other cause and that it might be a good idea to see a doctor while it happening. The easiest and cost-free way was to enter Emergency at the Kununurra Hospital. After a short wait, I was examined by a nice doctor. The verdict? She could not say what it was but she could say what it wasn’t and she thought it wasn’t anything serious. She suspected it was probably related to me having extremely tight muscles through my left hip and groin (a consequence of cycling so much I think), which might be interfering with digestion. This fits in with the fact that I have had difficulty stretching out my left leg in recent months. I took paracetamol and a muscle relaxant and the pain started to ease. I think I will use the day’s events as a kick up the bum to finally start some yoga exercises, something I have wanted to do in a long time.
