I didn’t sleep very much last night. It was hot and humid. My sleeping mat got a puncture and then it blew another seam, rendering it about an 8.5 out of 10 on the uncomfortable scale. I woke up at 4.15am. My first leg of 35km took me to a rest area where I met some backpackers who gave me a whole heap of fruit salad and vegetables (stuff they were going to have to throw out at the border). One girl had a live chicken as a pet and was worried that she wouldn’t be allowed to take it into Western Australia. My next leg of 25km took me to a bridge where I sought shelter for about 4.5 hours through the middle of the day. I hit the road again at 3.30pm. The sun was weaker but the humidity was worse than ever. I was hoping I could expect a storm each night (which cool things down) but a guy told me the storm I had yesterday was an isolated event. I am now lying in my tent, sweating profusely.
