There is not really a cycle-friendly way into Darwin city (not one that I could find at least). I stuck to Stuart Highway for as long as I dared before seeking backroads with less traffic. These took me through Bees Creek and Virginia before I returned to the highway for a nightmarish stretch until I could veer into Palmerston. I took Tiger Brennan Drive despite the fact roadworks were in progress. For some of it I could ride on the safe side of orange cones, but for a lot of it I had to brave busy traffic. I eventually made it into an industrial area which took me close to the CBD, by which time I could rely on footpaths. I immediately found the waterfront and didn’t hesitate to go for a cleansing swim. Back on the bike, I followed the water’s edge to the esplanade, where I shot a quick video before finding my new home. I went to the H Hotel to pick up an envelope from reception containing a set of keys. I then found C2 apartments on the esplanade. I rode into the carpark, got into a lift and travelled up to level 5. I rolled into a pristine apartment overlooking the bay. It is my third-cousin’s place and she is away for the weekend. I showered and settled in before going to the Tap bar for some sliders and a beer. I got some groceries at Woolworths, then returned home. I’m too exhausted right now to express how happy I feel with myself for having made it to another Australian capital city. Pretty happy though!
