I feel so much happier than I have in the past couple of weeks. The reason: I spent last night camping out in the bush, which meant fresh air, sunshine, bush walking, relaxing, wind in the trees and sleeping in a swag. It made me realise just how much I have shut myself up in my parents’ home. There were seven of us on a ‘boys’ night out. Three dads, three kids (6, 7 and 8 years old) and me. One of the dads was my best mate Dan. We camped out in Jarrahdale among a stand of jarrah and marri trees. We were visited by a kangaroo as the sun dipped below the horizon. We visited some creepy derelict wooden cottages in the dark. And we were visited by the Easter Bunny, who looked suspiciously like a sleepy me emerging out of my swag just as the horizon was becoming golden with the rising sun. It was nice to hear the squeals of delight as the kids woke up to find eggs scattered about our camp.
