Reacquainting myself with Facebook via a personal account has been a positive thing for me. The ability to easily stay in touch with people is great, but more important for me right now is that it allows me an easy glimpse into lives that have nothing to do with my bike trip. Riding solo meant I slowly became self-absorbed and extremely introspective, and I didn’t have anyone readily on hand to talk to. As a result, I think I started losing touch with what life is actually like outside of my cycling bubble. Being able to see and interact with the goings-on of my friends’ lives (even though it’s just an online representation) will help bring me back down to earth and provide a welcome distraction when I need it.
