– The adventures of a solo round the world cyclist –

Day 603 (Nepal Day 29)

When the light globe blew in my room last night I was moved to another room. Now I wished I hadn’t moved. While there was a mosquito net in my original room, there is none in my new one and I was besieged by the little buggers. Furthermore, whereas my former room was tucked away at the back of the building and thus relatively quiet, the new room has two windows fronting onto a public area, so it is extremely noisy.

I woke up early and decided to chill out in bed watching HBO, but when I tried to turn on the TV I discovered the power was out. I decided to get onto my chores instead, my first major task being washing. I hadn’t washed my cycling shirt and shorts in five days of riding. The filth that came out of them was shocking, even to me. It took about five bucket washes before the water began to run clear. Washing everything took a while, so I felt deserving of a movie when I’d finished. I crashed on the bed and watched Kidnapping Mr. Heineken. When that finished, I tended to my bike. At first I simply planned on checking the status of my repair to the side-wall of my rear tyre, but I ended up giving my bike a detailed clean instead. Dried mud was a couple of centimetres thick in places. After cleaning it, I reapplied some patches to the rear tyre, adjusted both sets of brakes and checked the tightness of all the nuts and bolts. All up I must have spent nearly four hours on it. It was time for some more TV. I promptly feel asleep and was woken by a knock on the door announcing that dinner was ready.
