I have to say I am little proud of myself about how I dealt with my classes today. I woke up and put my apprehension aside by thinking, ‘I can do this and I can do it well’. And I believe I did. The classes ran smoothly, thanks to the clear instructions I had written myself. I also dealt with lazy kids in a professional and effective way. I came away from my day of teaching happy and no longer fearful. Classes done, I jumped on the back of Madan’s motorbike for an adventure. We ran some errands (dropping off some invite for his party on Saturday and shoe shopping) before heading to a public gathering of local Newari community members who were putting on a once-yearly show of traditional dancing. A troupe of girls and women were dressed in traditional clothes and performing a variety of impressive dances. So graceful, pretty and feminine. When the show ended I joined Madan and his family at his uncle’s house for dinner, which included some of the most delicious chicken I’ve eaten. I am staying at Madan’s house tonight and will return to school with him in the morning.
