All of a sudden I am a world away from my life in Kathmandu, having spent the day riding west towards Pokhara. My body handled being back on the bike well. I pushed it pretty hard though, especially considering the fact I haven’t ridden for more than five weeks. I only had one break the entire day and this was only for about twenty minutes; enough time to smash down some peanut butter sandwiches. The ride wasn’t particularly interesting. After climbing out of Kathmandu valley, I have enjoyed a general descent following the flow of the Trishuli River. Having started at 9.30am, I rode until 3.30pm, when I reached Charaundi and found a guesthouse beside the main road. It’s slightly fancier than I want, but I didn’t have the energy to hunt around for others. I feel under pressure to reach Pokhara tomorrow as I have sort-of arranged free accommodation. I say sort-of because I’m not holding out too much hope. My coordinator at Reliance Public has three different friends in Pokhara and said she would arrange for me to be able to stay with them. I was to let her know tonight the approximate time I would arrive there tomorrow. She would then call her friends and work out whose house I would be able to stay in. I am now waiting to hear back. I can already feel that my body is going to be in a lot of pain tomorrow.
