It’s 11.10pm so my plan to have an early night has clearly failed. I succeeded in getting some exercise today though, courtesy of the little gym at the bottom of my parents’ apartment building. I used a bike for a while before getting on the stepper (not sure what its real name is). I now feel a little less confined in a weak body, which was the way I was feeling after the last couple of weeks without strenuous activity.
I’m going slightly crazy from typing in diary entries into my computer. The funny thing is that exactly one year ago I was here in Perth doing the exact same thing and getting frustrated in exactly the same way. I could probably just copy and paste the diary entries being published right now (describing the events of year ago) and they will be 90% correct in terms of what my days are like now. This time I will leave Perth with a stronger conviction to cut out the time I waste producing these diary entries. Instead of my current method (which is to write each entry in my notepad, then later type them up on the computer, then later review the entries prior to publishing), I plan on writing them into my computer straight away, and do away with the use of a notebook. I just need to establish this as my new habit. The main challenge to overcome is that I like scrawling in a diary.
I progressed my conversation with the guy from Pakistan on Instagram. When he asked if there was anything he could do to help, I brought up the subject of the Letter of Invitation, saying I might need help if my friend’s friend doesn’t come to the rescue. I now have two contingency plans: this guy on Instagram, and a paid service via Lost Horizons. I really hope I don’t have to resort to either, but time is starting to run out. I get my passport back on Thursday from the China Visa Service Centre and I would really like to get it off to the Pakistan Consulate in Canberra on Friday.
