I enjoyed working on one simple task today: produce a birthday present for my mate Jayden. It’s not his birthday until July but as I am leaving Australia next week I decided to help him celebrate it a little early, especially given it will be his big 30th. I started working on the gift around 9am and I was done around 4pm. The result: a framed pencil drawing of his dog Juke. The drawing itself took about 4.5 hours of solid work. I had a 15 minute lunch break and I also spent some time buying a frame and fitting the picture. I actually surprised myself with how the drawing worked out. It’s my fourth dog portrait drawing. Feeling good about the drawing, and having been inspired last night by an ABC programme about an Australian artist called Roger Swainston, my ideas to make part of my living through art have been reinvigorated and I am getting swept away with dreams of focusing on art when I am done cycling around the world.
