The bus ride continued for about 16 hours. It stopped twice, once at about 5am for about 30 minutes (just enough time to smash down some breakfast) and again at about noon for another 30 minutes. I got to stretch my legs briefly a few times in between as I was called off the bus to register my presence at a number of police checkpoints. On arrival in Gilgit at about 2.30pm, I spent about half an hour organising my gear before riding into town and looking for a place to stay. I have ended up at Medina 2 Guesthouse (realising too late I was actually trying to find Medina 1, which is more backpacker-oriented). Medina 2 has proven to be a very comfortable place to be though, and it has a big garden area in which I can spend some time cleaning my bike tomorrow. After checking in, I went for a walk around town. I was hoping to satiate my hunger with a meal at a nice restaurant (having not eaten since the 5am breakfast), but I ended up walking a loop back home to Medina and eating there. All I wanted to do then was curl up in bed and begin catching up on sleep.
