Accepting that I’m stuck in Kashgar until my back heals gave me more motivation and energy to get up and use the time productively (with non-manual tasks). This was until I accepted some ibuprofen from Mark, who came to check on me in the morning. In between him giving me the pills and returning to give me instructions on their use (one tablet, twice a day, given that they are twice the normal dosage), I’d already swallowed two. I thought I’d better lie down while I waited for any ill side effects. None came, but I still let myself be lazy anyway, progressing further into Shantaram. Eventually, I got restless enough to put my lingering motivation/energy into practice. This meant preparing photos for Instagram and typing up my handwritten diary entries.
