Day 890 (Azerbaijan Day 5)
My body obviously needed a rest because I didn’t wake up until 11am. I didn’t get moving until 11.45pm and I didn’t have breakfast until 12.30pm. Consequently, my day passed relatively quickly. I am feeling better than I was this time yesterday, but my digestive system is giving me increasing trouble and the first signs of Giardia have reappeared. When will I ever be rid of it?! Another health problem I have been suffering from in recent days is blisters on my bum. They formed after my ride from Alat to Baku and are showing no signs of healing. One is so sore I have become sure it’s infected. Consequently, I have taken the step I avoid as much as possible and purchased some antibiotics. Taken together with the metronidazole I now always carry, the antibiotic should help me kill any bacteria affecting either my stomach or my bum. Still feeling a bit ill, and not wanting to stress my body before it’s fully better, I again had a lazy day at the hostel doing very little. By the end of the day I was feeling a little self-conscious and embarrassed by the fact that I hardly moved from a comfortable beanbag in the lounge room. I am taking this as a sign that I’m on the mend.
