– The adventures of a solo round the world cyclist –

Day 940 (Turkey Day 19)

I couldn’t sleep last night. I couldn’t stop thinking about what I’m going to do with my life. Option 1: get a travel grant to cycle Africa and deal with the question later. Option 2: go home and save up for more cycling. Option 3: go home and save up so I can move overseas to live. Option 4: go home and save up for another epic adventure of a different kind. At first the idea of stopping this trip in Europe feels like giving up. But I need to remember that getting there from Australia by bicycle will be a great achievement in itself. And I have a whole life ahead of me in which I can pick up where I left off. My key realisation was that as long as I continue chasing some kind of adventure, something that excites me, then life will be fine. It doesn’t have to be cycling the world. It doesn’t even have to involve travelling. As long as it excites me. Life is too short for boring days.

Today I breakfasted, cleaned the room, washed my clothes, worked on my grant application, went out for lunch, watched a movie (Leon: The Professional), went out for dinner and watched another movie (The Fault in Our Stars). I have recklessly eaten too much and my digestive system is giving me grief over its confusion about what it should do with the gross volume of food I have shoved into it.
